After working in my studio for the morning, I headed into Waterloo for the afternoon. The KW Gem and Mineral Club has a special Kids Club which takes place the first Saturday of each month at 2 pm at the Button Factory. They cover a range of topics, and this month they had asked if I would come and talk about minerals as pigment colour.
It was an engaged group. Whenever I asked a question almost every child’s hand went up! Over an hour and a half, we watched a presentation about the different colours that have been used throughout history, we made our own pigment and then turned it into crayons, and lastly we took a close look at some of the different samples I brought along.
It is always fun to lead children in exploration; this afternoon was especially so.
